Nick Wilson Memorial Plaza Design Options-Main Street Bridge Railings!

The Nick Wilson Memorial Plaza project will include a public space and trail connection on an easement next to Fanno Creek on what is now the egress driveway for the brewpub building at 12562 SW Main Street. The plaza will create a space for the public to enjoy views of Fanno Creek.  It is named in memory of a former Tigard City Councilor who helped envision this public space concept.

The plaza is currently being designed and we are asking for the community's input!  Initially, we asked for input on the overall design.  There were three options to choose from. Over 550 people responded and the below option was overwhelmingly preferred by 65%. The main reasons given for this choice were lower cost to implement and less impact on the creek.

We are now seeking the community's opinion on the Main Street Bridge Rail Detail.  Please take this brief survey and let us know your thoughts. Your opinion matters!

Concept A: Fanno Creek

This Fanno Creek design highlights Fanno Creek as the centerpiece of the community. The railing would be made of laser cut weathering steel, with a representation of the course of Fanno Creek as it flows from SW Portland to the Tualatin River, shown in accent lighting. This provides a unique, safe experience for pedestrians. This railing would be installed over the existing railing of the Main Street bridge.

Concept B: Spy Ecology

This Spy Ecology design highlights the wildlife and ecology of the Fanno Creek area. The laser cut steel panels have silhouettes of native birds, fish, reptiles, and insects found in Fanno Creek. This railing would be installed over the existing railing of the Main Street bridge.

Concept C: Riparian Grasses

This Riparian Grasses design is inspired by abstracted forms of river grasses. People crossing over the bridge can enjoy framed views of Fanno Creek and landscape in between the “blades of grass”, made of weathering steel. This option will replace the existing railing, and will be required to have structural beams, and therefore would have higher costs.
